Research Triangle Park, N.C. — Nearly 1,000 people attended the Triangle Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Monday to celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr. The event, now in its 37th year, is one of the largest MLK Day events in the Triangle.
Dozens of events occurred on Monday celebrating the life of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Events included a ringing of the Liberty Bell at Independence Mall to thousands participating at the annual Day of Service at Girard College.

To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., traditionally, the national MLK Day of Service is held in January. However, in consideration of the University's Winter Session, we will observe this day of service in February so that all UD students have the opportunity to serve.
The 2018 service, entitled "King: His Voice, His Teachings, His Love for Humanity" will feature a keynote address by The Hon. Ben Chavis, Former Executive Director of the NAACP. The emcee for the event is Emmy award-winning journalist, Ms. Barbara Harrison (Channel 4 News). Music and interfaith reflections from several faith traditions in the DC area will be featured.
